I love the Greek hip hop music
Trap music is a sort of rap music with incredible hits worldwide and numerous youtube hits, as of late in Greece as well. Its roots in mid-1990s in southern hip hop with beats produced through the Roland TR 808, at first slow, at a rhythm of around 140 BPM, unequivocally including the bass and drums component to the electronic music. Essentially, the distinctions of the then hip hop and trap of the time were little and inconspicuous.
The word trap contains two concepts directly linked to the word “trap”. The “trap” referred to both the territories of the poor American South, where trade and drug use were made. At the same time, trap was also referred to as “trapping” into a no-life lifestyle of poverty, misery, violence, drugs and eventually death. A “trap” that is enriched, enriched by the beats, has the first and the second word lyrical, melodious. With Lean, a toxic drink made from codeine syrup (cough syrup) and Sprite to play the role of narcotic-mascot for trap.
Nevertheless, what we have today as trap music is definitely a transformation that met the genre at the beginning of the millennium when it became the marriage of southern hip hop with “bass vocals”, dance and dub, where the dominant were the low frequencies and the repetitions of the tracks in the tracks. Thus, the intersection comes with TI’s Trap Muzic, which contains the above-mentioned transformation, while at the same time it first establishes the name “trap music”, compared to “southern hip hop”, which was used until then for music. Trappers such as Gucci Mane, Three 6 Mafia, and Waka Flocka are also moving in the same direction.
The popularity of the trap music has gradually begun to grow, absorbing more and more rappers, not just the mainstream scene, such as Kanye West, who released both earlier tracks in trap remixes and his new trap tracks, but and the underground scene that distributed their work at SoundCloud, dramatically increasing its traffic. Through this journey, we arrive in 2015-2016, the year that trap is now striking dub and dance music on Internet searches and sales, while at the same time challenging rap’s leadership in so-called hip hop culture.
Through this journey, it is 2015-2016 years trap is now striking dub and dance music on Internet searches and sales, while at the same time challenging rap’s leadership in so-called hip hop culture. The first contact of the Greek audience with the trap – beyond that beautiful race that tuned in to Trap “before it was cool” during the siege of Messolonghi in 1825-1826 – came basically with “Harlem Shake” in 2012 – 2013. The internet trend has also reached our country, with video production being kept at a high level.
Beyond the first contact, however, at that time trap music did not manage to gain a stable audience and establish itself on the Greek stage, with the minimum trap productions of 2013. About lyrics, the Greek trap moves onward traditional pillars of Greek “dirty hip hop”; to make the perfect rhyme to beat the beat you follow the always successful recipe. A dose of rinds that contain “a lame bracket” that sends you to “another edgy phase”, a dose of references to cops trying, a dose of lots of alcohol and half a dozen spoons of lumps, the material necessary to there is absolutely no point. So, we have created the cool cocktail filled with cliché, for every 15-18 years he respects himself and “lives his life at the edge just as it is”.
At the same time, nodal poetry has half-naked lyrics, to which the woman is objectified, while this objectivity is considered an accomplishment. I quote the “I Want to Drink” Light, in which, beyond the most spontaneous use of auto-tune in the history of music, there is also the reproduction of this rhetoric: “You did not come drunk at the party, get out of here, you came to you drink our own bottle, get out of here … If you have something to make head, crap and bring me, I want to drink. “
It is a fact that the transfer of American cultural products to Greece is a process to involve necessary filtering so that the result is closer to the Greek reality
So, at such a level of proportions, the closest to the American South and the lifestyle there … is a Roma campsite where there are drugs, there are fast cars, guns, and diffused crabs. “Get the stuff babe”!
Numerous tracks rotate around the profound dreams of each Greek trapper, endeavoring to escape from the misery of a poor reality and become a drug dealer or simply to make a lot of money, but also to be able to subdue the oblivious woman to whom the piece is addressed. Essentially, here is the big difference between the trap and the rap.
If we accept that a track of rap music has lyrically included a socio-political reflection, regularly with a clear class sign, despite any simplifications, issues and missteps, then with all assurance we can say that the Greek trap goes too far from this logic, a narrow core of recruiting and stimulus, which essentially does not have a material notoriety in Greece.
Something that is not so much the same with the American trap, whose ancestors actually lived in a sociopolitical environment legitimately linked to the subject of music.
Following the assassination of rapper Paul Fissas from far-right political elements, the rap music evolved heavily in Greece and dared the trap form. There are no conspicuous groups/gangs in Greece, gun keeping is not allowed, does not exist the inexorable form of poverty on a significant scale.
The trap looks more like performance to decompress emotions and enchant the young audience alongside with the extraordinary sound. The future will show its viability… Be that as it may, I share with you some of my fav songs.
